Panic attacks and Anxiety Disorder are common behavioral conditions the world over. Part of the reason they are so common is because we all feel some form of anxiety throughout our lives. Because of this anxiety and panic attacks have become one of the main symptoms of Anxiety Disorder. The numbers are tell the tale. In the U.S alone the ADAA (Anxiety Disorders Association of America) statistics show that 40 million adults age 18 and older suffer from Anxiety disorders and are the most common mental illness among that group. The ADAA has also calculated that cost nationally is more than $42 billion a year. Huge numbers to be sure.
Panic attacks do not necessarily have to be related to Anxiety or Panic Disorder. They can be cause by other conditions as well such as Agoraphobia and Hypoglycemia. Because of this proper diagnosis is a necessity before seeking treatment. But if you suffer from them due to some form of panic disorder then thankfully your condition is most likely treatable.
Panic attacks are one of the most treatable of the anxiety disorders. Many of the options are biofeedback therapy, Psychotherapy (talk therapy). There are also medications that can help such as beta-blockers, anti-depressants, and others. Also do not rule out your eating habits, exercise routines, and overall health, they are key indicators to those that suffer from these behavioral conditions. And of course, do not forget to seek the counsel of a doctor for overall guidance in your treatment of this disorder.
